imagined while cutting back wild overgrown jasmine from a timber trelles in my garden and a memory of a mehandi design seen on the hands of a young girl in the streets of jaipur. i am slowly removing introduced plants and trees in my yard and replacing wth natives i now have four banksia babies growing.

walking to my studio back in adelaide past the city fire station it was a delight to spot this new holland honeyeater and a beauty of a single grevillea bush. i drop pins in my google maps everytime i find a native growing so i can go back another day to say hello, it shows you plant natives and the birds will come even in a busy city street. along the bottom like little houses or buildings in a row are brightly coloured patterns from the border of a sari.

blissfully eating brekky in a garden haveli in jaipur i watched two doves moving from the ground to the tree top, back and forth, back and forth. it was a sacred fig peepal tree and they were building a nest xx this is my home version, white naped honeyeaters and eucalypus. the eucalypus grows in a side street as i walk to the post office, the blooms are the size of my hand and so very pink, puffy and pretty. i added a wattle motive i drew on a roof top sitting in udaipur inspired by a pattern from the city palace walls i had explored for many hours the day before.

i watched and chatted with a master painter in one of the hotels i visited. he was carefully repainting the faded decorative borders along the corridors of the four story four hundred room heritage haveli. he joked by the time he finishes the last room he will have to start again at the lobby. my protea border reminds me of him. when i returned home my new street was full of green leaves it was like walking through a tunnel of rustling bright green energy, i walk alot to get to belong to my new home, one night as the sun was setting a pair of the brightest red and green rainbow lorikeets burst towards me through the corridor. we are slowly getting to know each other.

while painting 'the path of the wind' i was inspired to do this pale version. i like the winding movement of the branches and wanted to do something with protea, although they're not native to australia i feel like we have adopted them. i can see both these artworks suiting nicely to a future textile project.
